images of release

As I am in the midst of setting up the experimental analogue courses for Dark Art Sessions, I am reflecting on some of the incredible courses that I have ran over the years, one being Images of Release.

I worked closely with a charity called Soft Touch Arts in Leicester, who provide an artistic outlet for vulnerable people. Images of Release was a project which existed to encourage ex-offenders to learn a new skill, which allowed them to observe the world around them, and document it, following release.

Those taking part in the project used a mixture of digital and 35mm film photography, all of which were taught over Zoom, due to the National Lockdown.

Here are a selection of images from the course. To protect the identity of the photographers, names have been withheld as requested.

This project is dedicated to J. Rest in peace.
